Mastitis and Milk Quality

The Third International
Symposium on Mastitis and Milk Quality will be held September 22-24,
2011 in conjunction with the American Association of Bovine Practitioners
(AABP) 44th Annual Conference. The NMC and AABP have jointly sponsored
each of the previous international symposia, the first being held in
Indianapolis, Indiana (September 1990) and the second in Vancouver,
BC, Canada (September 2001).
The symposium will feature short presentations on current research that
has direct application to mastitis control, milking management, milk
quality, and milk safety. The objective is to disseminate technical
and applied information to veterinarians, researchers, and other dairy
professionals interested in improving udder health and milk quality.

Abstracts
Persons interested in presenting a paper or poster at the symposium
are invited to submit an abstract for consideration by the review committee.
The abstract must include title of the paper, author(s), affiliation/location(s),
and a brief description of purpose, methods and results.
Abstracts which provide results and conclusion of completed work will
receive more favorable consideration than those which report work in
progress that is to be completed in the near future but prior to the
symposium. In those situations with work in progress at the time of
abstract submission, the authors should provide as much information
as possible and any credible assurances about expectations of final
results and conclusions.

All abstracts must be submitted electronically through the NMC online submission website. Abstracts of no more than 250 words (including the authors, affiliations and locations) should be submitted following the instructions provided below. Hard copy abstract submissions and emailed abstracts will not be considered.
The submitting author must indicate if the abstract is being submitted for oral presentation/poster or poster only. The review committee will make the decision in which format the presentation will be accepted.
To be considered, all abstracts must be submitted by March 1, 2011.
If the submission is accepted as a poster, the abstract will be the published as it was submitted (no additional manuscript is required).
If the submission is accepted as an oral presentation, a full manuscript must be submitted by May 1, 2011. Instructions will be provided at a later date. The original abstract must be included.

Special
Note about AABP Research Summaries
All mastitis and milk quality related papers that normally would have
been submitted as research summaries during the AABP annual conference
should be submitted for presentation during the international symposium
on mastitis and milk quality. Abstracts on mastitis and milk quality
will not be considered for oral or poster presentation during the
AABP research summaries session.
Commercialism and Use of Logos, Product Names and Trademarks
The intent of the symposium is to provide quality educational
content, which is free from commercial influence or bias. Abstracts,
papers, and posters are not to be be used as platforms for commercial
sales, promotions and/or advertising. Excessive use of brand names,
product names, trade names, and/or trademarks is not allowed. Excessive
use of brand names, product names or logos, failure to substantiate
performance claims, and failure to objectively discuss alternative
methods, processes, and equipment are indicators of sales pitches.
Restricting commercialism benefits both the authors and recipients
of submissions and presentations. A general guideline is to use proprietary
names once and thereafter to use generic descriptors or neutral designations.

The American Association of Bovine Practitioners is an international association of veterinarians organized to enhance the professional lives of its members through relevant continuing education that will improve the well-being of cattle and the economic success of their owners, increase awareness and promote leadership for issues critical to cattle industries, and improve opportunities for careers in bovine medicine.
The National Mastitis Council provides a forum for education and global exchange of information on milk quality, mastitis and relevant research; and communicates that information to the dairy industry enabling it to control mastitis and improve milk quality.
