NEW PRAGUE, MN (March 21, 2023) – Join milk quality enthusiasts in Visalia, Calif., for the 2023 National Mastitis Council (NMC) Regional Meeting, May 2-4, at the Wyndham Visalia. “The NMC Regional Meeting will focus on caring people and happy cows – where quality milk begins,” said Alfonso Lago, DairyExperts, the 2023 NMC Regional Meeting program chair. “This is a phenomenal opportunity for dairy producers, veterinarians and allied industry partners to gain hands-on experiences and take home practical information to further the dairy industry’s pursuit in producing and marketing outstanding quality milk.”

The NMC Regional Meeting kicks off with short courses, which provide interactive instruction and networking in a small-group setting. This year’s short courses include:

  • Hiring, Training and Motivating Quality People Enabling Quality Milk
  • Troubleshooting Mastitis and Milk Quality Problem Troubleshooting
  • Decision Making at the Dairy / Economics of Interventions Related to Milk Quality
  • Vacuum and Air Flow Analysis for Milking Systems Following NMC Guidelines (features a “teaching” milking parlor)

Tuesday evening includes a tour and reception at DairyExperts in Tulare, Calif. During the afternoon of May 4, NMC will offer a tour, which features River Ranch Dairy and M.F. Rosa Dairy. M.F. Rosa Dairy (Rolland and Noel Rosa) includes 1,200 cows with a rolling herd average of 27,682 pounds of milk and a somatic cell count that hovers near 100,000 cells/ml. To produce quality milk, the dairy uses sand-bedded freestalls and harrows open lots daily. The dairy uses several energy-saving technologies, including solar, variable drive pumps and LED lighting. Water-saving practices include recycling and using water four times (milk cooling, cow washing, lane flushing and irrigation). The dairy processes its own milk.
