Join us for an NMC webinar presented by Dr. Daryl Nydam, cornell University – Selective Dry Cow Therapy: Does it Make ‘Cents’ for Your Dairy Operation?

Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 2:00 PM – Chicago time

For decades, dairy producers have used blanket dry cow therapy, where every quarter of every cow was treated with antibiotics at dry-off. While this practice can be viewed as a proactive practice, it can also be viewed as overuse of antibiotics. As dairy operations improve udder health and milk quality, it’s time to consider selective dry cow therapy (SDCT). Learn what factors to consider when evaluating SDCT – at the herd level and cow level.

Learning objectives

  1. Know what udder health (e.g., incidence of clinical mastitis) and milk quality (e.g., somatic cell count) benchmarks to use for the potential implementation of selective dry cow therapy.
  2. Understand the importance of judicious use of antimicrobials.
  3. Gain insights regarding financial implications related to SDCT.
