For decades, dairy producers have used blanket dry cow therapy, where every quarter of every cow was treated with antibiotics at dry-off. While this practice can be viewed as a proactive practice, it can also be viewed as overuse of antibiotics. As dairy operations improve udder health and milk quality, it’s time to consider selective dry cow therapy (SDCT).
